"A Mercator Map of Mars" This is a 48 K Jpeg.
Now that Mars is back in the news... I made this Martain Mercator map from a NASA map of Mars that pre-dates the Mariner and Viking space probes. The Mercator map and the resulting rotating Mars animation was produced for a computer interactive about the planet Mars...The idea was to give amateur astronomers and students (museum visitors) an idea of what feature you'd observe that night through a telescope... by clicking on a calendar date...

This composit goes way back to when NewTek's, DigiPaint first came out for the Amiga... (Early '88 I think). This composition was inspired by a fellow Amiga user, Dennis Clevenger, at a NAG graphics SIG meeting when he showed us a picture of Stonehenge sitting in a lunar landscape. It inspired me... If I can do this anyone can!
